Lucky’s Hot Chicken at the Mikkeller Brewpub in Exmouth Market, is one of our new fav spots for a reason.
The space itself was open and minimalistic with candlelit tables and great service (shoutout Ash & Seb). We were just imagining ourselves coming through on a sunny day for a pint & some deliciously fried chicken. The pub itself has a variety of beer options but has some fun cocktails too. It’s perfect for any occasion but we’d say come for some drinks with friends or a casual date night.
Theo in the kitchen knows what he’s doing and showed us the ropes. The chicken is double fried so it’s perfectly crisp & tender. You can then decide between 1 of their 6 spice options, the hottest being suitably dubbed as ‘Good Luck’. We decided to go for Cajun which had just enough spice that you could still enjoy all the flavours going on.
We chose the Nashville Sando that’s made up of a toasted brioche bun, a fried chicken thigh, vinegar slaw, Comeback sauce, and pickles. The chicken is thoroughly coated in the spice and the rest of the sando is assembled. She was a beauty, we have to be honest.
They have other sando options too, including a vegan one for all you vegans out there. For those craving a kick, there’s a Buffalo one with Buffalo Sauce, Blue Cheese dip, lettuce, pickles sandwiched between a gorgeous brioche bun. Honestly, now that we think about it, nothing sounds better to us than a pint and some fried chicken.
